Reader comment on item: Syria's Looming Water Calamity

Submitted by Dave (United States), Jun 2, 2014 at 21:52

I know that Syria, like much of the region, is a very dry place. It is therefore imperative that the people of the region cooperate in order to efficiently allocate scarce water, especially since the Euphrates flows through several countries. Such cooperation calls for an ethic that stresses consideration for one's fellow man. The Judeo-Christian ethic stressing brotherly love is not only uplifting, but it would actually help solve the water problem.

Instead, we see how jihadism and jingoistic hatreds from Turkish Islamists are leading to a potential humanitarian catastrophe. The UN should take up the matter, although they would probably blame Israel, further proving my point.
