Reader comment on item: Saudi Arabia: Friend or Foe?

Submitted by Kafantaris (United States), Mar 27, 2014 at 11:23

"Saudi Arabia is not a natural ally of the U.S., and probably never has been," declare none others than the Editors of Bloomberg. "[W]hen the Saudis look around the region, they see rebellions that unseated autocrats, like them, in Tunisia and Egypt." But the Saudis will never "consider what democratic reforms they might make to avoid Mubarak's fate." So forget about them "allowing national elections," or "peaceful demonstrations," or merely "giving women equal rights to men." With such stubborn mentality, the Saudis should be nobody's friend -- least of all the leader of the free world.
