To Tara - some answers for youReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Isis (Australia), Jan 19, 2014 at 18:34 Hi Tara. I have previously written about the paper you are describing and it is called the Orfi or Urfi Paper. It is the required "marriage" contract for any Egyptian man to be with a foreign woman in Egypt. Unless the man is a licensed guide or tour operator he is not even permitted to walk with a foreign woman in the streets. If you stay in a hotel, leased or rented accommodation with an Egyptian man in you are required to have this signed Orfi paper. The Landlard of any remises leasing flats or apartments is required to have a copy of this paper and it is also reported to the police where you are staying. If you have this paper there will be no problems staying with your man. If you do not have this paper and there are over zealous police about your man could be arrested and looking to spend 6 months in jail. Further information re the Orfi paper follows: "The Orfi marriage contract is only legal in Egypt. It is a contract between a man and a woman consenting to a "marriage" and the inent is to satisfy the Islamic laws regarding sexual relationships in Egypt. As an Egyptian man cannot be alone with a foreign woman unless he is a licensed tour guide or operator, the Orfi Paper has become an easy way for Egyptian men and foreign women to have a sexual relationship. However, the Orfi Paper will state that the woman cannot be legally married to another man.whether in Egypt or any other country. If she is, then she is breaking the law and could see jail time in Egypt if found out. If she is not in Egypt and the Orfi paper has been destroyed there will not be a problem in remarrying. The Orfi paper is on an A3 sized paper, written in Arabic and signed in front of lawyers so is a legal marriage document in Egypt but is not recognised outside of Egypt. If you wish to have a legal marriage in Egypt which is recognised in other countries it needs to be performed through the Ministry of Justice in Cairo and can take up to a week to complete all the documentation required before the marriage is granted." Your question regarding your man's martial status at the age of 33 years is easily answered. It would be highly unlikely in the rural or resort areas that he is not married and to not have children. Most Egyptian men are married before 30 years of and children come immediately after marriage. If he is in a professional line of work and educated, it means his family is moderately wealthy and he may not be married. It is also very unusual for you to be invited to stay in the family home. I think that this offer has been made to earn your trust. Beware of any requests for money or designer items. If you met your man in the tourist areas of Egypt (Hurghada, Luxor or Sharm) - beware! Many of these men are gigolos and are very practiced in scamming foreign women for money and designer items and it is common for their families to also be in on the act. Submitting....
