Response to any who object to observing Muslim Holidays

Reader comment on item: Which Privileges for Islam?

Submitted by Danielle Mackey (United States), Mar 16, 2005 at 14:27

I am an American Convert. I grew up Catholic.........yet, I always knew that Christmas and other religious holidays (Christian) I would be off school and not have to worry about missing anything.

I know that now, when you open a calendar, you see Kwanza, most of the Jewish Hoildays, and of course all Christian holidays, and even the soltis holidays, but we have to always Mark our own holidays on our calendar. I think it is sad that we live in a country where we are all supposed to feel free to practice religion, yet the religions that are observing holidays other than the christian ones have to suffer at work, school and banks, etc.

I belong to an interfaith dialogue group, and when you actually meet people of the other religons, you realize, there are roots that make us all stand on common ground. God. Even our money says "In God We Trust". Yet, the minority religions have to fight in order to have the US accpet our "God", even though it is the same God.

This should not even have to be an issue, either give religious rights to ALL people , if we are all to be created egual.
