It is Still Erdoğan's Turkey - For the Moment - The West Still Does Not Know Him

Reader comment on item: Erdoğan's Decade as Prime Minister of Turkey
in response to reader comment: Saving Turkey -- Saving Western Civilization?

It is easy to see that the western mores of modern Europe are in a declining state and if left to their own devices, western styled societies will not be able to staunch an increasingly formidable situation that is the Middle East. One might presume by this observation that Islam could easily overwhelm the western world were it not for one thing: Israel.

Turkey's (read Erdoğan's ambitions) towards a restyled government based upon Islamists precepts has its many problems, historically and within the modern context. In simple terms: Turkey was, is, and will be in the target zone as the world attempts to come to grips with how to gain peace in the Middle East, a peace thought by many to be the solution to the world's increasingly hostile attitudes (Iranian connection to North Korea, Syria, etc.,); and newly attempted endeavors by the United States novitiate Secretary of State.

The last SOS Clinton tried in futility to garner some influences in Turkey, but to what end? That remained to be seen, but now is academic as Sec. Kerry attempts a different tact. It will be interesting to see how Kerry's plan will set well with Erdoğan. We'll see. So will the Russians as they continue to build Tartus.
