Dr. Pipes

Thank you very much for a great analysis of what is really going on in Egypt now.

You are very correct: There is no reason for SCAF (Tanatawi el al) to give up power not now or ever and the reason is very obvious and that is if SCAF gives up political power they will be also be giving up their privileges and money making operations and there is plenty of them

Mohamed Morsi is his own worst enemy. He is weak and clueless. The fact that he wanted the parliament to convene inspite of the fact that the courts dissolved it, and the issue here is not if it is a good or bad ruling by the courts but the fact that as a president of Egypt he must respect the courts and therefore the rule of law and this has not gone unnoticed by the on-line community

And to add insult to injury many members of the Islamists parties are getting bad press as in the case of the young shiekh who was arrested on a major highway having sex with a young woman and his defense was that he was giving her mouth to mouth breathing as she "passed out"! Or the other salafist who had surgery for rhinoplasty then he claimed that he has bandages on his nose and his face was bruised because of being attacked by a car hi-jacker who also stole his money and when his little scheme was exposed he stated that he did not tell the truth because of the effect of the anesthesia! and in the past few days a salafist had a "marriage" union called in the Qur'an ma malakat aymanakum or marrying a slave and i'm not kidding you. and on top of all this he is not the president of al-ikhwan al-muslimeen which means he has no power to tell the members to behave themselves

But what makes or breaks would be the economy and law and order things that SCAF can provide but Morsr would be unable to do

I suspect that Tantawi loves all of these scandals and i'm sure we have not seen the end of him
