Reader comment on item: Chris Christie's Islam Problem

Submitted by Y brandstetter MD (Israel), May 4, 2012 at 02:28

I beg to differ. Gravitas? he has lots of that

There is no contradiction in being a staunch supporter of Israel and soft on Islamism abroad. Its in Israel's interest that Islamists feel comfortable away from Israel, and migrate to accordingly. Christie sees no reason why lslamists should not direct their vast oil wealth to New Jersey rather than invest it in Gaza Hamas. For Israel this kind of dichotomy is no dichotomy. it actually makes sense

For American Jews however, this stance is awkward. American jews have been telling their children Israel is a dangerous place because of all the Islamists blowing up buses and restaurants. Gradually the danger in Israel seems to come under control while it mushrooms elsewhere. So much for the myth of the relative safety of living in america, which panders to the islamists, with no one to protect the Jews, for fear of being labelled Islamo-phobe. Christie, being non Jewish sees no reason to make Jews more comfortable in the US than they are in their homeland, Ergo, a supporter of Israel, and of american Islamism.
