How or why did the KKK [at one time, very powerful and accepted] and groups like Aryan Nation become irrelevant? Besides taking away their blood supply [$money], the 'message' was proven to be bogus, unacceptable and 'not to be tolerated'. What needs to be proven to academia and the American public in general is how [along the same vein as the above mentioned examples] the goal and message of militant Islam is[not to mention its pathetic origins]. If that is done, and people use their intelligence once again, militant Islam will become as irrelevant as people being motivated to listen to lectures/speeches on 'mein kamph' and have that argument be defended as just regularly expected free speech.
