Erdogan's Turkey

Reader comment on item: Ambitious Turkey

Submitted by Jay1 (United States), Apr 14, 2011 at 20:53

It is hard to see a fine people like the Turks led into this new arena by Erdogan. What little America asks of its Nato members in live time,Turkey jumped ship in the easiest of requests. It may have cost American lives en route to the Iraq war. One can understand a Turkey claiming a Muslim connection to compliment its hand to Europe, hand to Middle East positioning. But breaking bread with the Assads, Qaddafis, Hamas and Ahmadenijads of the world is not a show of connection or importance. Its degrading to Turkey itself and a run amuck feather in the special Nato club. Frankly, this Turkish goverment is befriending thugs, dictators and killers. That Israel is suddenly a pesty burden in relations to Erdogan, reinforces a feeling that this Turkish government chooses any shade of green over even its own red, or white or God forbid blue. Erdogan by virtue of his new found friends, may be signaling his desire to rule for a very long time.
