Islamic Reformation

Reader comment on item: Islam's Future

Submitted by David L. Williams (United States), Aug 13, 2002 at 12:54

It seems to me that the Reformation of the Christian Church was fairly successful in bringing a more humane church along with modernity. Dr. Pipes is simply encouraging this reformation of the Islamic church.

How much of Islamic extremism is engendered by the political organization of middle eastern nations? Probably a lot. Controlling the population exposed to western ideas of individual rights and democracy is foremost in brutal dictatorships. Utilizing the social controls of radical Islamic clerics helps to insure a populace that is antagonistic towards the west and more malleable for dicators.
Turkey is showing the way and the west should help her.

Condemning hundreds of millions of Islamic people to perdition because of the failure of timely reformation seems like a very un-Christian thing to do.
