Terrorists' call for parents to keep their kids home

Reader comment on item: God and Mammon
in response to reader comment: Militant Islam itself causes poverty

Submitted by Rajeev (United States), Sep 29, 2010 at 00:53

Dear Dr Pipes:

Some of your readers are debating whether militancy causes poverty or is caused by poverty. The current hotbed of Islamist militancy is Kashmir A recent news story from Kashmir provides a data point. Last week a terrorist leader asked the parents to keep their wards at home and away from school because of the war that is being perpetuated by the terrorists. By contrast, in the rest of India, young kids often spend all seven days in school to stay competitive. Let the reader decide -- is militancy the cause or effect of poverty.
