This doesn't mean Sharon's plan is a bad idea. It might be necessary for other reasons but the Palestinians cannot but see it as a major first win to their terrorism. After that, when a Palestinian says "this Intifada can achieve nothing" he'll be countered with "It gave us all of Gaza. This is something which no Israeli government gave before. For the first time they removed settlements because of us. This is just the first step. In another 3 years, they'll withdraw from the entire West Bank and three years later, from all of 'Palestine'".
