This is in response to Peter Demma's remarks.
The entire western world is living "high on the hog" as you put it. Not just the USA. In fact I reckon Americans are a whole lot more civil, polite, and decent than their European counterparts.
In this regard I am particularly ashamed of the vile behaviour, low standards, and selfishness of my fellow Englishmen. We hear Americans being criticised over their regular attendance at Church, by dirty, vulgar, violent louts who get falling-down drunk every Friday night.
I have this strong suspicion that we know we have descended to the level of the swine, and we are lashing out at folk who haven't. It's called spite.
