"A National Guidance Council" ???

Mr. Redmond has certainly summed up the situation exceptionally well. A tribute to his 61 years of experience and learning.

I don't remember what I said in my original writing....however....a glimmer of an idea for a solution to our major governmental problems does exist in my thoughts...as follows:

Perhaps we need a "guiding body" similar to our Supreme Court. Such a body would consist of well qualified and experienced persons who would serve for their lifetime...just as our Supreme Court Members do now. Their mission would be to formulate and guide a National Policy of Direction for our Nation. This is very similar to what Confucius might have done in ancient China. HIs ideas influenced China for 2,400 years...and even influence "Communist" China today.

The principle duty of this "guiding body" would be to advise and assist each new President of the USA in pursuing a policy based on Wisdom...and not on "political expediency". For example, when President Lyndon Johnson was deliberating what to do about the initial situation in Vietnam...he sought advice from every source that he could think of....and finding no real advice available...he resorted, in almost desperation, to a course of action that would ensure political victory for his party in the next election. (Both President Bush's may have had similar situations as they decided to go to war in the Middle East) I believe that many other Presidents have made very similar almost desperate decisions...when they could find no other acceptable guidance. A "National Guidance Council" would perhaps answer this desperate need for advice for our future Presidents....and, if it had been in existence...might have prevented another "Vietnam experience" ...such as we seem to have fallen into today, in the MIddle East. A "National Guidance Council" could also advise as to solutions to the internal political situation described by Mr. Redmond. The only 'task" of this Council would be to watch the directions that we are moving both internally and internationally...and to find a path of wisdom to present to each new, and usually inexperienced President, elected to office....for consideration.

Well...this is a beginning. Any ideas or comments anyone ??

Always, Nelson Horton
