Extremely heartening

I have, over the years, known a number of officers in the U.S. Military. Though most of my friends are historically-minded, they often tell me of other individuals who aren't similarly inclined. One referred to these individuals as "knuckle-draggers". You hear that the study of history is unimportant because technology has changed the face of warfare so much that it's not worthwhile any more. So it's good to hear someone else is paying attention, and actually studying history, looking for people who were successful in the past, and trying to see why.
