Reader comment on item: [Beslan Atrocity:] They're Terrorists - Not Activists

Submitted by John W. McGinley (United States), Sep 7, 2004 at 15:14

Kudos, of course. Your remarks are exactly accurate. I get depressed sometimes by the widening acceptability of these inaccurate terms. It is, of course, intentional. The spreading of the anti-Israeli bias in the media worries me. For people -- and expecially students -- this is being taken as virtually axiomatic. and the lines between "anti-Israeli" to "anti-Jewish" to "Anti-Semitism" are often unconsciously crossed.

There is a similiar dyamic which goes on with regard to any American governmental stance which takes a "hard-line" (i.e. realisitic) towards Islamist terrorism. It's not as entrenched as the anti-Israeli bias, but it is there and it is growing.

You continue to perform you much needed public service by calling these people on what they are doing and doing the research so that you can CITE what actually happened versus how it is reported on and editorialized on.

But Professor Pipes: Do you ever get discouraged? John W. McGinley
