Flawed logic I'm afraid. It really falls down on this point: "The realist in me states that we should all become muslims and live in peace with the rest of the world."

Not a very realistic realist in you then. Facts attest to the opposite - Muslims do not live at peace with the rest of the world - so becoming a muslim will not automatically make you live at peace with the rest of the world. It may make you appear to be at peace with the rest of the muslims but even that begs the question - which subspecies of muslim you elect to become - if you're a Sunni - what to do about Shia and vice versa.
