Dr. Pipes is correct and interesting as usually. Regarding the last paragraph:

Why is "Islamism-2" more successful than communists or fascists? Neither because they are stronger, nor because they are smarter.

Unfortunately the reason is – because at the time of communist and fascist threat the Western people did have enough brain to understand the danger and enough will to resist. The success of Islamists is the result of softening of Western will and Western brain.
