Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men

I have been reading and reading on this site all afternoon - what an eyeopener ! Much of what is written is painful to read .... I live with an Iraqi refugee to my country - religious differences are only a point of interest to us as he does not practise his or any other religon, while believing in God. Cultural differences - ah yes, of course but then again, I am really very lucky - my man does his share of the housework, looks after me when unwell, loves to spend time with me with my family, is a homebody through and through.

Many years living alone through a war, many difficulties as a refugee made him so wary of love and trying to live with a woman but now he trusts me (I swear, it was like enticing a wild animal into your home at first) he is so sweet, respectful and loving. HAVING SAID THAT I would be very, very, very wary were he to want to go back to his country and take me with him. Mmmm ..... these guys, their culture has a hypnotic effect of them from what I hear and once they park you among their women at home, their attitude towards you might change, even if they themselves do not realise it. My partner has had to make HUGE adaptations to live here - he might think it legitimate to then ask me to make the same adaptations once I left my country. Only snag is none of the adaptations he made here compromised his liberty, his dignity, his freedom - whereas the ones I would make would ! He is the best thing to hit my life after a lifetime of charming no goods but you got to keep your feet firmly on the ground.
