Reader comment on item: Why Shariah Must Be Opposed
in response to reader comment: Let us (westerners) start some soul-searching.

A little thought experiment: The year is 2503....Islamic Earth is at war with the aliens from Andromeda. Space station Jehad-0089 is orbiting Jupiter. Corporal Ahmed follows Mumtaaz the maid into the Gamma ray chamber and they make love. Mumtaaz at the time is married to Sheikh Jamaal. Captain Akram discovers this on his hologram display.....what does he do? Orders 10 lashes on Mumtaaz and her left hand chopped of. By the way....all women on the space ship wear the hijaab.....

That is insanely absurd.

Fundamental flaw of sharia is its in-flexibility. Modern law, if found unfair can be challenged by citizens through the parliamentary process. A law which seems fair now (for example capital punishment) may be seen as barbarous in more humane times....But Sahria, since its "word of god", can never be challenged. therein lies the flaw.

No matter how advanced the muslim society was in the middle age....see where it is NOW. It is clearly behind the western world...even China....the sole reason is in-flexibility.
