Reader comment on item: That Nobel Peace Prize: Bashes Bush, Handcuffs Obama

Submitted by Phoenix287 (United States), Oct 10, 2009 at 13:18

And what do you expect him to do vis-a-vis Iran? Attack it? That's not in our interest, it may be in Israel's interest, but not in the U.S. interest. We don't have the financial or troop resources right now. Would Israel be willing to send IDF troops this time? If not, why? And if so, how are they going to defend against the retaliation by Hezbollah and Hamas? Even at full strength the IDF was not capable of dealing with Hezbollah 3 summers ago.... War is the easy way out, at least when you don't stop to think about all the contingencies that go with any offensive effort. Iran is not Iraq nor Afghanistan, a lot of people will die -- American, Iranian and Israeli; probably tens of thousands. Not to mention, you'll be perpetuating the Iranian clerical regime by causing the people to rally behind them. It's amazing how quickly Americans forget the lessons they learned from the last war: we will NOT be greeted as liberators.
