april 4th 2006 HOW ISRAEL CAN WINReader comment on item: One Cheer for Obama's Foreign Policy Submitted by JACQUES HADIDA (United States), Sep 15, 2009 at 21:06 Clicking on " PALESTINIANS NEED BE DEFEATED" I found words from Sun Tzu, Clausewitz and Montecuccoli about war and its effects. May I add few other words by other famous people. They give an extra dimension to war and its effects. It was Abraham Lincoln who said:" Both parties deprecated war; but one of them would make war rather than let the nation survive; and the other would accept rather than let it perish. And the war came... How much truer could this be. The Greek Thucydides said: " People go to war out of ' honor, fear or interest' . which one is applicable in this case? And Herman Wouk warned us: " Either war is finished or we are" How interesting to hear Nietzsche claim:" War makes the victor stupid and the vanquished vengeful" Sun Tzu mentioned earlier did tell us:" There is no instance of a nation benefiting from a prolonged war" But Einstein was right for:" As long as there will be man, there will be war. And General Patton was right: "War is very simple. All it takes is simple and ruthless men. I will finish with this word from Leo Tolstoy with which I can only strongly agree:" War in this world can be stopped not by the ruling establishment, but by those who suffer from the war. They will do the most natural thing: stop obeying orders Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
