Your comments are right on with the exception that it does not only involve the USA but the West in general. While we have Europe and Russia appeasing Islamism, there will be no united front and therefore a change from within Muslim societies themselves is very unlikely. We can't have part of the attacked fighting it while the rest is either a silent bystander or even helping it.
