What history have you read? No Islam is not just a religion but a form of government, History always states how the Arabs that ran Islam were always disriminatory to their conquered foes; enslaving them or charging them fees that the Arabs did not pay, regardless of their acceptance of the religion. This resulted in backlashes of violence and overthrow. Iran and Iraq are full of these stories.
