What's good for the goose, etc.Reader comment on item: U.S. to Israel: You Decide Nukes in Iran, We Decide Bedrooms in Jerusalem Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Jul 8, 2009 at 09:32 It seems to me that Israel, since it is a sovereign nation, should have the freedom to make any number of decisions, whether to build settlements or attack Iran. According to Webster's New World College Dictionary, the definition of "sovereign" is: 1) above or superior to all others; chief; greatest; supreme 2) supreme in power, rank or authority 3) of or holding the position of ruler; royal; reigning. So if Israel has this power, then the United States or any other country does not have power over it, and ultimately Israel will do what it deems necessary to protect itself, whether the US agrees or not. Support for a nation does not mean control over it, and if Israel has never made a move of its own accord, then perhaps it is not the sovereign nation that we believe it is.
