Sadam, al-qaida, the west...Reader comment on item: US Hands over Power in Iraq Submitted by joe rose (United Kingdom), Jun 29, 2004 at 09:44 Dear Mr PipesI read you are sure of the strong link betwen al-qaida and Sadam, yet you acknowledge the non -islamist nature of the regime. To me, this is very awkward, since I understand islamist do not like (in fact despise) the non religious nature of government like sadam's. Also, I always understood we, the west (including the Americans) helped Sadam to stop the perceived threat of islamists in the 80's (Iran). Is this not the case?
