Reader comment on item: A Call for American Boldness in Iran

Submitted by Peter Herz (United States), Jun 29, 2009 at 00:24

No, we don't need to be bold on Iran. Mousavi was one of Khomeini's goons, just like Ahamdinejad. Whoever wins in Iran will be America's enemy, and we have to live with it.

As far as I can tell, Iran hates the USA. Period. End of story. The political alternatives in that country seem to be one bunch of Christian- and Jew-hating mad mullahs or another, or perhaps the Mojaheddin-e-Khalq, a group whose members in the USA should be rounded up, stripped of citizenship or residence rights, and deported (in their own circles, they boast of being the first "revolutionary fighters" into the "nest of spies" back in 1979).

Obama probably wants to wait and see because he knows he's out of his depth. But if this is a bad reason for his policy, his policy is still correct (and I write as someone who believes that the country made a bad mistake in the 2008 election).
