Dr. Pipes, your assessment of Netanyahu and the Islamists is correct, so how can you waffle in your conclusions? As Netanyahu says, every attemp at negotiation has resulted in further demands and the trajectory of those demands is the final elimination of Israel. The Palestinians, Hamas and Al Fatah, want Israel gone. Everything they've said, everything they've done is consistent with that and inconsistent with any other interpretation. This is suicide and Obama has chosen sides -- against Israel.

As for "Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people', the reason why the U.S. should support Israel is not because of historical claims to religious hegemony, but because it is an outpost of the West, an island of the Enlightenment in a sea of totalitarian religious despotic regimes. That is its claim to legitimacy and that is what Obama is rejecting (as he is here in his own country).
