The great Israel sell off has begun!

Reader comment on item: A Rapid and Harsh Turn against Israel

Submitted by Ken Besig (Israel), Jun 5, 2009 at 02:29

I have talked with several of my friends here in Israel, and I have closely watched and listened to the usual pundits, both Left and Nationalist, as well as the various news services and they have all told me not to worry. They all say that the Obama Cairo speech was vague, full of righteous platitudes, juvenile and shallow generalizations, and some distorted or incorrect facts or historical references, and that his comments on Israel can hardly be taken as either antagonistic or hostile to the Jewish State.

I disagree quite strongly with that analysis and now firmly believe that President Obama is going to do everything in his considerable power to reconcile the US with the Islamic world, and that he is going to pay for it with the Israel coin. Apart from the obvious fact that President Obama deliberately left Israel off his list of Middle East countries to visit, and his making a totally inappropriate demand in an Arab capital to completely halt what he terms Israeli settlement building, he also gave credence to the mythical and thus false Palestinian narrative of Israeli oppression and even went so far as to morally and historically equate the Jewish and Palestinian experiences.

Mr. Obama is a disciple of the Third World school of thought which damns the West for practically destroying the developing world by raping and pillaging it's resources, destroying the indigenous cultures and mores, as well as killing off it's most promising potential leaders while ensconing in their governments the most brutal, callous, and murderous dictators. Of course nowadays, the Third World grievance song is getting a little worn out but Mr. Obama has refreshed it by rehashing the Palestinian narrative of suffering and oppression.

But Mr. Obama is too smart to sell off his Israeli stock in one day or even one year because to do so might even alienate the assimilated "court Jews" like Rahm Emmanuel or David Axelrod, advisors so essential to his Presidency not to mention the American Jewish Community which could immediately drop their support for him and start writing letters to their Congressman and Senators demanding they put a stop to Obama's anti Israel program.

President Obama has two years to shove Israel under the bus, just like he shoved the Reverend Wright and Bill Ayres when they became problematic. My prediction is that every few weeks the Obama administration will single out Israel for one reason or another, most probably the settlement halt issue, and complain that Israel is becoming more and more a part of the problem and less and less a part of the solution. Mr. Obama will constantly profess his support for Israel and that he is trying to save Israel from herself. And at the point where Obama believes that even the American Jewish Community is on board with his negative view of Israel, he will announce serious and dangerous military and diplomatic aid sanctions against Israel thus solidify his position in the Islamic world and the financial rewards that will certainly follow for the Democratic Party.

Israel is in for some very tough choices in the near future and will be forced to tell Mr. Obama something he can't stand to hear and that is the word "NO!" Needless to say, Mr. Obama will be outraged at being refused and will press even harder on Israel, but now it won't just be for political or diplomatic reasons, it will be far worse because now it will be personal.
