Take the Lead and Relax

Reader comment on item: A Rapid and Harsh Turn against Israel

Submitted by Jay (United States), Jun 4, 2009 at 02:41

The problem with the Likud government,is that politically, they dont know how to take the lead. They shine in nervousness and argumentative dismay.Too bad. Taking the lead means that on the subject of Barak Obamas quest for truth, the Palestinians must be told now that no refugees, none, as in no settlement building is a possibility.

Truth is truth. Harsh is harsh. Truth and harsh go both ways. Should Barak Obama not be forthcomming with such a statement, and if the israelis dont insist on this truth and consequence, then an uneven hand is at play.So should be the words of Shimon Peres,Ehud Barak, and Ms,Livni .For that is the Abbas desired core that would replace a blindsighted Netanyahu goverment.

As for the verbal understandings given to the Israelis under Bush,Israel should point out that understandings about Israels retention of some territory (implied in UN resolution 242) and thus settlements, was every bit as important to Israel,as understandings reached with the Palestinians on future statehood.Let truth be truth, harsh be harsh and understandings be understandings.

As for Israels future borders ,Netanyahu once drew a border map. So did Ehud Barak. Pick one. And stand by it. Israel should not fear the Palestinians. They, not Barak Obama are the issue. The Palestinians are willing to compromise on nothing. Give them a chance to prove that. And relax.
