Wrong about Shas

Reader comment on item: A Rapid and Harsh Turn against Israel

"Even if the U.S. government succeeded in splitting off the two parties least committed to Netanyahu's goals, Labor and Shas,"

You seem to be wrong about Shas. Shas absconded from the previous government coalition seeing that Yerushalayim partitioned might endanger jewish life. Shas is growing ever closer to the settler movement, for ideological and practical reasons. Just yestersay Shas' Eli Yishay said removing Jewish habitations in the heartland is essentially antisemitic.

As for Labor, it has nowhere to go after the last flip-flops. Barak is making a fool of himself removing "outposts" which are reconstituted two hours later, Netayahu being content with his potential competitor looking irrelevant.

But your main point is valid. Obama is increasingly viewed as a tool of Islam inserted into the driver's seat of a bus going nowhere, servile, appeasing and submitting to those who revile, hate despise and destroy everything America was supposed to represent. He seems the antithesis of hope, a mere tool in the hands of all-conquering Islam, aberrant, unreliable, a patsy. In local parlance his presence at the helm is referred to as: We managed to get past Pharaoh, we'll get past this. The choice of Cairo, the capital of Arab antisemitism and hate-literature production, only strengthenes this Pharaonic sense.
