Buyer's Remorse?

Reader comment on item: A Rapid and Harsh Turn against Israel

Submitted by John W. McGinley (United States), Jun 3, 2009 at 22:26

I was an avid supporter of Obama over John McCain. I even went so far as to claim, in this very forum, that Obama would come to be recognized as a true friend of Israel.

With each passing week I am becoming more and more skeptical about my prognostication. I voted for Obama partly because I thought he had a subtle intelleigence and could finesse these troubled waters better than McCain. But subtlety is not what I see in his foreign policy and in his attitude towards Israel. He seems to be determined to be remembered as the most naive President since Jimmy Carter, especially with regard to Israel. At least Carter jaw-boned Sadat and Begin into a decent peace arrangement with Egypt which is still holding firm. I do not see any sucy positve outcome, at the present time, for the Obama Administration.

Isn't it intereresting that 2009 is turning out to be a year very much like the last year, 1979, of the Carter Presidency: Paralysis relative to Iran.

As for me, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
