An Unlikely Scenario

Reader comment on item: Bushfire Jihad?

Submitted by Richard H (Australia), Apr 12, 2009 at 10:53

The few firebugs caught in this country often fit this profile: Young Anglo-Australian male, with a history of substance abuse, socially maladjusted with a chronic chip-on-the-shoulder. They also tend to have a good local knowledge of the terrain and time the arson attack for weather conditions that will yield the maximum impact. Fire would make a devastating form of terror in this country but the evidence suggests the perpetrators have more personal reasons for their work.
