Reader comment on item: Arabs, Israelis, and Underdogs

Submitted by Anne-Marie Delcambre (France), Apr 3, 2009 at 03:20

"Underdog" is used in reference to a group which experiences discrimination, persecution ..
BUT the definition of this group as an "underdog" may change over time and through circumstances.

The Zionist movement was regarded in the West as representing underdog (Jews were the target of persecution)

HOWEVER nowadays Palestinians are regarded in the West as representing underdogs ( e.g displaced Palestinians ). WHY ?

The depiction of a conflit in the mass media , especially on TV, INFLUENCES who would be seen as the "underdog" .

And the "underdog" is the "favourite".

But who is the REAL underdog ? Israel or the Palestinians ? Nazi genocide has been easily forgotten !!
