Where is the support of the Arab community?Reader comment on item: Arabs, Israelis, and Underdogs Submitted by Shawn Cohen (United States), Apr 1, 2009 at 15:40 Since so-called Palestinians have only been in the land for a few generations, they are essentially members of the larger Arab community. Yet, one has to ask, where is the support from the Arab community for this people group? They have been left to live in refugee camps and squalor for decades while the overall Arab community has decided to stand aloof. Personally, I believe this is the case b/c the surrounding Arab nations have no infrastructure to reach out to the West Bank occupants. Nor do they want them in their own geographic regions to add burdens to an already impoverished society. As Bernard Lewis has noted, many heads of Arab states do wonderfully at exploiting their own people so it's obvious why they wouldn't want to take on the support of another impoverished people group.
