Terms of Arab acceptance of IsraelReader comment on item: Palestinians Who Helped Create Israel Submitted by Jerry (United States), Mar 26, 2009 at 10:11 The surest way to lose indigenous Arab support is for Israel to make unilateral concessions to the Arab power brokers. In my humble opinion, it is the strength of Israel that draws support. Where we showed weakness, we lost local support. A prominent example is the loss of support in Southern Lebanon following withdrawal. Israel had cobbled together locals to form a self-defense militia, which fell apart upon their withdrawal. Those of that pro-Israeli force remaining behind were tortured, killed or forced to seek exile. Following the abandonment of the South Lebanese population, Hizb'Allah became well organized, forcing Israel to fight it in 2006 at the loss of well over 100 souls.
