I was interested in Chris Slater's idea of micro-states within Western Democratic Countries. Maybe trying them would not be such a bad idea! I. If they exist in reasonably acceptable places, they then would start to compete with the surrounding countries, forcing them to be attractive or perish (succinctly put). II. Because people matter to me more than land and because micro-states may not even need a whole lot of land, I like us to consider actually CREATING micro-states. For as many willing emigrants as possible.
While in most of these micro-states abiding to democracy then could be mandatory for admittance and continued citizenship. When financially feasible, these would be states competing with current dictatorial states (of origine of the migrants), who now have only limited opportunities to emigrate out of. WE may provide a way out!!! Today man can travel from 1 corner of the Earth to another in max. 2 days, so territorial location becomes ever less important. But the percentage of humans under democratic rule versus under dictatorial rule seems to me very important. I have great confidence in democratic countries winning out in fair competion! If only we could create the choice for the inhabitants of the dictatorial ones (esp. for women).
