George Mitchell and the Girlie Men of Gaza.
Reader comment on item: George Mitchell's Return to Middle East Diplomacy

Submitted by Maura Collins (Canada), Jan 26, 2009 at 09:17

The Mitchell story is more than a little absurd considering the one-sided effort of both parties being played out to a fare-thee-well. The State of Israel has twisted herself into a pretzel to accommodate the "International Community", whoever the heck they are, by giving up land for peace, and releasing murderers in what Olmert euphemistically refers to as 'a goodwill gestures', and received in return, what? What exactly did they get for these torturous concessions?

While they jeopardised the safety of the state by catering to these thugs, the rockets kept zipping into Sderot and Ashkelon with little to no demand from the outside world a cease fire of same. On Christmas Eve, 2008, the Girlie Men of Gaza decided to up the ante on punishment for their opponents, and legalise via their cozy contract with Sharia Law the introduction of Crucifixion.

Yes indeed, Mr. Mitchell and his new boss believe they can now do business with a group of men who consider this gross and extreme form of punishment the norm, but water boarding is 'inhumane?' We had the pleasure in my country, Ireland, of having Mr. Mitchell as a special envoy under the Clinton administration for several years, and while he did some good things while there between the opposing sides, please don't confuse his efforts as the main reason for success in the final ceasefire, as there were many other factors in play that contributed to this.

Yet Mr. Mitchell and his new boss would deal with a government who kidnapped a young soldier, Gilead Shalit, and has held him in captivity for over 2 years, and will negotiate in good faith with such people? What legitimate government dose this and gets away with it, and what of the opponents of Hamas, Fatah, will they cuddle up to and be included in a fireside chat with the US, while in turn Mitchell tip toes between the bombs of these 2 groups of lovelies praying not to offend either side ? You couldn't make this stuff up.
