Throughout the history of humankind religions have come and gone. The current recognised religions are relatively young and adherence to the various mythologies is decreasing as people become better educated and able to rationalise.
There are more and more people realising that religion truly is, as Karl Marx said, "The opiate of the masses". As prayers remain unanswered and the gloom and doom of climate change, carbon footprints and a deteriorating planet raise their heads, people are realising that if there is a god, it chooses to remain unknowable and allow us all the free will we need to make it or break it.
New religions (more philosophies than religions) appear to be here already. (See http://www.wingmakers.com for some interesting and stimulating reading).
Hopefully, before Islam takes over the Western World, common sense will prevail and people will ditch religion for the farce that it is. With religion out of the way, we can focus on being one race and begin repairing the mess we've made of our home.

PS: If you must pray for anything, pray for a world free from religion.
