4/20/04 Thank you for the insight of both the editorial thoughts by Mr Pipes, and the content presented from Ms Benard's Civil Democratic Islam...
However, I must personally say, I feel a little like I have two arrows in me. One in the back side (you pick the region) from a politcal hit about equating the war on terrorism with a "holy war" on Islam being the total answer. All four of the categories of Islam have been applied to Christianity as well. The other hit is closer to the heart as a life-long Christian and long time minister with the final solution being: "only when Muslims turn to secularism...". That will not happen any sooner than when I shed my "rabid faith" for a secular cloak of citizenry in America. By the way, I don't feel like a rabid anything. Must be the mantel draped over me that just doesn't fit too well.
It is too bad than we have to always try to make the shoe fit the other person that we want them to wear. I will continue to "wear" my personal cloak of my faith in Christ so that all will see Him in me, and that will continue to lead me to be the best citizen of
my country I can be. If more of that were done, both other "secular" nations, and "religious" communities might just look at us and themselves in a different light.
