Since 7/7, movement has gone in the opposite direction of what you postulate. Secondly, even before that, these were islands of cultural autonomy, segments of which were religiously infused -- and segments of those were wholly opposed to any sort of integration with mainstream societies bc of their commitment to a transnational system. So you were dealing with 1% of a group. They could become a hegemonic force in Afghanistan, but not in Britain. ...
