Beginning of the end of ideologyReader comment on item: [The RAND Corporation and] Fixing Islam Submitted by Sean Doyle (Libya), Apr 15, 2004 at 06:58 Since the end of the cold war and communism's relegation to the recycle bin of history, western political philosophy now faces its greatest challenge with well armed, well-funded and well-connected (in the technological and tribal senses) semi-educated Islamists. Here, in the foothills of the 'war on terrorism' -- analagous perhaps to WWII's phony war period, we see, hear and read Islamic apologists from both sides of the divide repeating a mantra saying that Islam is a religion of 'peace, tolerance and equality'. The stark truth is that far from being peaceful, integrationist or tolerant, many of Islam's followers and interpreters demonstrate actions and views contrary to scientific-humanitarian goals that, although remain goals for us in the West, at least do not strive towards a world-wide monotheistic society... Conclusion: let the 911 Commission Report in telling us what should have been done, also tell us what to do now, combining all resources to tackle head on, without the fear of 'offending' delicate sensibilities or upsetting states with whom America has 'complex' relationships Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
