The way things are, the prospects for admitting Turkey into the EU look bleak. Anyway, that's how they ought to look given the present political climate. Turkey in the European Union: A Bridge Too Far By Philip Claeys & Koen Dillen, reviewed with distinction by Henrik Raeder Clausen in DW, is a stark reminder of the situation. The facts, clear and undisputed, until now however seem to have fallen on deaf ears in the Commission, including Olli Rehn. A very disturbing set-up, apt to raise suspicions about EU:s role as defender of Western values. Secularism and extremism aside, I do appreciate writer 'd. ata's' honesty and down-to-earth mind-set.
