Why so many illusions about Islam? Is prof. Bernard Lewis so influential everywhere?
Idea of fixing Islam is the best example how quite reasonable people are trapped by the assumption that Muslims could internalize modernity and democracy. Turkey is not the very good example of secular society but enlightened miltary that wants to keep the country undivided. Turkey will be hotbed of terror much worse than Taliban in Afghanistan in the next several years. So called secular or moderate Muslims are going to disappear in the next decade. We should get ready to bomb Mecca or we will dissappear as the civilization of reason and technology.
As long as the Western democracy was political problem for and of men, Muslims did not see us as the enemy of religious identity. Now, the full democracy and equality for everyone (women, lesbians, ...of every kind et.) ie encroaching in the Muslim belt (from Morocco to Indonesia) and jihadists must attack the Western civilization. It is clearly them or us. Information age does not allow for closed societies and the only solution Muslims have is the war.
