Israel vs HamasReader comment on item: Israel's War on Hamas: A Dozen Thoughts Submitted by David (United States), Dec 31, 2008 at 12:33 Hamas should never have been an issue, except to be a militant group, but thanks to the pressure from the USA it is. The USA and its western allies forced the Fatah party, that was the ruling party in Gaza and the West Bank to hold democratic elections after the death of Arafat in 2004. So Hamas won in Gaza and became the legitimate government in Gaza. So much so for democracy.
