What's wrong with polygamy?Reader comment on item: Westerners Welcome Harems Submitted by kazander (United States), Nov 27, 2008 at 16:25 While polygamy certainly shouldn't be an excuse for different treatment under the law, I question Mr. Pipes' belief that polygamy is in some way a threat to Western institutions. What is the justification for outlawing polygamy? It seems to me that most of the arguments against it are just as specious as the arguments against gay marriage. As long as we ensure that the laws we apply to monogamous, heterosexual marriages (e.g., preventing coercion) are complied with, I see no reason why we should outlaw polygamy.
