Goodby to divisiveness. It's time to come together -- to save us all

Reader comment on item: Obama's Connection to Sirhan Sirhan

Submitted by Ren Thelp (United States), Nov 5, 2008 at 20:59

Hi DP -- Please include this [upgraded] excerpt among comments about your
piece that ties Obama to Sirhan Sirhan. [It's from a critical email of mine to
you of yesterday.] Thanks, and best wishes, and thanks for being there / keeping
on keeping on. We need just as many Pipes as we do Obamas, but gawd forbid
that they ever outnumber each other by much; we only trust the mix.

TEXT

Comes a time when every good tool gets to be too old and too worn and flawed
to do more good than harm. So it is with us-and-them thinking, fear, anger,
hate, blaming, and warring -- that eons-old tool for effecting social change.

Is the human family ready to risk the great and obvious dangers of trying
wholly Golden Rule behavior? Nope. Will we ever give Golden Rule living a huge
and honest and relentless try until most of us see that -- in continuing to
ignore it -- we will ALL soon expire ----- on a planet that's about be killed by
the poisoned air, water and food that our warring and excesses cause? Nope;
too risky. We're not ready.

Only dreamers like our Golda Meirs, Roosevelts, Abba Ebans, Gandhis,
Kennedys, Rabins, M.L.Kings and Obamas just might possibly lead us all to learn for
sure [1] that our universe is quickly becoming exhausted of forgiveness; and [2]
that time is SHORT for us all, absent a worldwide epiphany that takes us to
sharing the tools of prosperity with every possible human in every corner of
the planet.

["Humans are never more effectively distracted from their eons-long love
affair with murder and mayhem than when they are busy trying to make money." (I've
forgotten which grand old American general authored this quote; I hope that
another reader will clue me in.) ]

But what now of our most vulnerable family-of-families, Israel? -- over 2
million of 'em. Bush -- our Baptist-in-chief -- should be effectively prevailed
upon to give every Jewish Israeli family permanent visas. [There's precedent,
vis-a-vis Iranian Jews, during the Carter years.] Israeli Jewish families will
become of invaluable influence here as we work to return America to the moral
high ground, to become again a great "light unto the world". And what nation
more than America deserves to become the destination of the Second Exodus, the
New Israel?

Love to ALL -- the human family's last remaining ace, as we play poker with
the fates. What are the stakes? Survival.
