Guilt By Association, IndeedReader comment on item: Obama's Mansion, Saddam's Money Submitted by Liz Wagner (United States), Oct 30, 2008 at 01:03 I agree with Clifford Forstadt, and that's why I'm a little bummed about this post. I always think of Daniel Pipes as someone I can rely on for level-headed thinking. Reports like this one, so close to Election Day, carry a whiff of hysteria. There may be solid proof of what he says about Auchi and Rezko. But something as vague as guilt by association can't rise to the level of an emotion extreme as "alarming." They're mutually exclusive of one another. A reasonable person is not going to think, "OMG! If these are the kinds of people Obama's doing business with, I'd better vote for McCain. HE wouldn't do business with anyone as questionable as THESE guys!" That would be silly. So what are we left to think? That positioning this post as "alarming" is not for the benefit of reasonable people, but for the benefit of scaring up the votes of as many unreasonable people as possible? That's an act of desperation. Mr. Pipes - tell me it ain't so! Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
