Bagels in Strange PlacesReader comment on item: Bagels in Dubai? Submitted by Charles Bayar (United States), Oct 27, 2008 at 17:04 I'm a native New Yorker (Jewish, too) who lived & worked in Saudi Arabia during 2001 (I was recruited as a lawyer for SABIC). Many common US foods were not to be found (e.g. cottage cheese, Equal) but bagels were available in the bread section of the local supermarket & I appreciated them as a taste of home. Apparently the Saudis didn't recognize their cultural significance. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
