I pity academicians who need to publish or perish, for there are few publishers who will consider those scholars who dare to speak out against Islam or, for that matter, any religion. The recently inaugurated Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa, jointly edited by Bernard Lewis and Fuad Ajami, seeks to provide an outlet for such scholarship.
